Project oCEANIC: Computing Environmental Adaptation and Navigation in Island Communities

Project oCEANIC is a research project that seeks to understand past seafaring via computational modeling. We are based in the John Martinson Honors College at Purdue University. Currently, we are collaborating with researchers at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo and Manoa and community representatives from the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands to understand how people in the past navigated during times of environmental fluctuation.

Project Director

Dr. Katie Jarriel is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the John Martinson Honors College at Purdue University. She received her PhD in Classical Archaeology from Cornell University in 2017. Her research background is in Aegean Bronze Archaeology.
